The CalValli Story

We’re a Native American–owned tallow company rooted in small-town Tennessee, where “going to the store for meat” usually means calling a farmer you actually know. For years, we’d buy a whole cow locally, pick it up from the butcher, and snag tallow whenever we could. Not because it was trendy but because it worked. It helped tremendously with psoriasis, and once you’ve seen that kind of relief firsthand, you don’t really care if someone thinks “beef fat skincare” sounds a little… unsexy.

At first, it was just for us. We figured nobody would take us seriously. (Turns out people will listen when their skin stops feeling like it’s in a constant bar fight.) So we started giving our tallow away to friends and family—no sales pitch, just “try it and tell us the truth.” The feedback came back loud and clear.

Then someone said, “You should make soap.” So we did. We gave it out, especially to parents of kids with eczema and folks dealing with psoriasis, and the response was overwhelming: more messages, more requests, more “please don’t ever stop making this.”

That sent us down the rabbit hole: researching deeper, reading labels, and comparing what most soaps and lotions are made of today. One of the wildest finds was an old soapmaking book from the 1960s that basically called it—predicting that as companies moved away from natural fats and oils toward petroleum-based products, skin issues would explode. Yeah… she wasn’t wrong.
